
Congratulations to the 5th and 6th Grade Quiz Bowl teams on outstanding performances in the Allen County Tournament! Fifth grade placed 3rd and sixth grade placed 1st. We are proud of our Shawnee Indians!


In honor of 10th grade student Emma Friemoth, Shawnee students and staff district-wide are invited to wear pink on Wednesday, February 12th. Please continue to pray for her family and friends during this time of loss.


LifeTouch will be at Shawnee Middle School on Wednesday, February 12th for Spring pictures. If you are interested in getting student pictures have your student get a picture form in the office. Also, Band and Choir as well as some other group pictures will be taken on this day.

This week is National School Counseling Week! We want to take a moment to show appreciation for all of the hard work our school counselors do and the dedication that they show to our students each and every day. Thank you to our School Counselors Angie Rex, April Bidlack, Abby Wood, Erica Schmiedebusch, Matt Christoff, and Natalie Melson, as well as Student and Family Support Coordinator Stephanie Kiefer and Mental Health Coordinator, Leigh Kempton.

SMS: IT’S THE BATTLE OF THE CLASSES!! Shawnee Middle School Student Government is running a canned food drive. We asking all students to bring in their canned goods from Monday, January 27 through Friday, January 31st. There will be separate bins for your grade. The winning grade will earn a reward!

All 8th graders need to bring their red SHS Course of Studies Booklets to school tomorrow. Students will be receiving 9th grade course recommendations and working on four year plans over the next few school days.

SMS Students: Temperatures are going to be very cold for the next couple of weeks so check the forecast daily. Be prepared to bundle up. Exposed skin for even small amounts of time will be dangerous.

Sixth graders engage in STEM activities by performing their NASA Mission Launch Lab to determine which angle will successfully land a 10 meter marked target.


In light of the weather forecast with potential snow tonight/tomorrow morning, if there is a two-hour delay and school is in session, the early dismissal would be cancelled and school would be dismissed at the normal time.

On December 21st the price will increase to $35. The final day to pre-order a yearbook is January 23rd. Order forms are in the literature tray outside the office or can be ordered online at www.yearbookforever.com (be sure to search Shawnee MIDDLE School).

Tomorrow is the last day for the Book Swap! A snake is moving into Lab 2 for STEM Day Thursday, so we're wrapping up a bit early.
Students, be sure to bring in your red book swap tickets TOMORROW if you still have them.

After 23 rounds of competition, Jason Chukwuma-Eze spelled "kippers" correctly to become the SMS Spelling Bee Champion. Ini Balogun spelled many difficult words correctly as well and finished as the Runner-Up. Both 5th graders did an outstanding job! Congratulations to Jason, Ini and all of today's participants!
