Dear Parents,
First, I would like to thank you all for the opportunity that you have given our coaches to work with your daughters and sons in the sports that they love to compete in. We are dealing with unprecedented times as we begin our fall regular seasons, and because of that there are changes that need to be made to give us the best opportunity to have a full season. The Governor’s Office, the Ohio Health Department, and The Ohio High School Athletic Association have given all schools in the state orders in how we are to proceed with our fall sports, and we MUST follow them or your daughters and sons’ teams will be shut down by one of the agencies that I previously mentioned or the school itself. First and foremost, masks must be worn at all times while at a contest, and must be on prior to entry to the stadium or gym. This will be at every school that you may visit to watch your child compete. We must also social distance in each venue both home and away. At home events every other row will be closed off to help with social distancing, and I feel many of the other schools that we will attend will do similar things to promote distancing.  The next area is ticket sales. Again, due to the order, we will be limited in the number of tickets that will be available for purchase for each sport for the entire fall. The numbers that we will be able to offer varies per venue and school, because of the different sizes of stadiums and gyms, I can only share with you what Shawnee will be doing for home events and both home and away for varsity football. Each week, for each sport our league schools will let me know how many tickets will be available for each contest and that is what will be available to purchase at the site. Our athletes for all sports, except varsity football, will be bringing home a voucher ticket that must be turned in at the site to be able to purchase a ticket. Without the voucher you will not be permitted to purchase a ticket for your child’s event. Here are the number of tickets that will be available per sport from 7th grade up.
Varsity Football: For home games each 12th and 11th grade member of the football team, cheerleader and band, will be permitted to purchase 3 tickets in the athletic office. 10th and 9th grade members of the football team, band and, 10th grade cheerleaders on Varsity, will be permitted to purchase 2 tickets. Each student will need to purchase
the tickets for their parents as we will be limiting the number of visitors in the school. For away games each player and cheerleader will be permitted to purchase 2 tickets. JV, 9th, 8th, and 7th Grade Football: Each player and cheerleader will be given 4 vouchers per home game to be used to purchase tickets at the gate for games. For away games the number of tickets will be determined each week, and that number of vouchers will be given to each player. Varsity and JV Boys and Girls Soccer: Each player will be given 2 vouchers for both home and away games to be turned in to purchase tickets at the site. Varsity, JV, 9th Volleyball: Each player will be given 4 vouchers for home contest to be turned in for purchase of a game ticket at the site. Away contests will be determined each week by the home school and that number of vouchers will be given to each player. 8th and 7th Grade Volleyball: Each player will receive 2 vouchers for home matches. Away matches will be determined each week and the number of vouchers will be given to each player. Due to our low capacity at the Elmwood gym we will have to clear the gym after the 7th grade match, so there will be room for the 8th grade parents in the gym. This may occur at other schools as well, and we will be told by the home school each week.
The limitations on tickets is not what we want to do, but it is what we have to do, to be in compliance with the order from the Governor.
Everything that we have discussed in this letter are things that must be done to give us a chance to have our sports seasons. There is a potential for the OHSAA or the Health Department to send inspectors to any of our events to check for compliance, and if we are found out of compliance the event could be shut down, causing the home school to forfeit the contest. We may not like any of these things, but the alternative is not to have any sports, which none of us want to have happen. Please have your masks on when you arrive at the venue, and leave them on during the game. Social distance, by sitting every other row and six feet from other fans that are not from your household. Thank you for your understanding and desire to see Shawnee athletes compete this fall, as we look to winning our third straight WBL All-Sports trophy!
Go Indians and Thank you!
