ALICE Training District Wide - Friday June 1st
Community members: Shawnee Local School District will be conducting Active Shooter Training with staff members Friday, June 1st.  In an effort to avoid potential emergency calls to dispatch, Shawnee Twp. Police Chief Keith has asked us to notify you of this training, which will be taught by his staff. Although no live ammunition will be used, gun shots may be heard throughout the course of training. The High School will be used for training in the morning and Elmwood Elementary will be used in the afternoon. This training is part of our continued effort to provide a safe learning environment for students in our community. Thank you for your continued support.

Defining eLearning at Shawnee Schools
Broadly, eLearning at Shawnee Schools occurs when teachers and students use technology to support their achievement of academic goals.

More specifically, Shawnee Schools will be providing eLearning opportunities in many ways including the following:

Companion Sites

Companion sites complement a teacher’s brick and mortar classroom. All teachers, grades 6 through 12, will begin developing companion sites in the 2013-2014 School Year.

Companion sites feature:
  • Syllabus
  • Week at a glance
  • News forum (for communication)
  • FAQ forum
  • Important class links
  • Electronic versions of classroom resources (like presentations, handouts, worksheets, etc.)

Transitioning to Google Apps
Shawnee Schools is committed to providing tools that are platform neutral in order to utilize any device on our network.

BYOT - Bring Your Own Technology
In the 2012-2013 School Year Shawnee Schools implemented a plan in order to allow students to bring their own devices to school and utilize.

BYOT Policy

Our Community’s 3 Year Vision for Technology and eLearning

Goal 1:  All students will be College and Career ready

Goal Description:  Redefine the use of technology to become a seamless tool for integration of curriculum as students learn through inquiry, performance and practice to become college and career ready.

Needs Assessment:  The Ohio Department of Education has clearly defined what all students, teachers, schools and districts are expected to know and be able to do. This process will ensure that students make progress each year and graduate from school to succeed in college and in a modern workforce.  Technology amplifies all students’ ability to achieve measurable academic progress, career & college readiness, and global competency.

Goal 2:  Universal Access & Collaboration

Goal Description:  Collaboration of ideas and learning will occur through the cloud and appropriate/emerging learning tools that work anytime, anywhere, and on any device.

Needs Assessment:  A vast number of technology devices and tools exist today and are ever increasing. In order to improve the integration of technology into the classroom we must develop a platform neutral system.

Goal 3:  Implement Internet Safety Curriculum

Goal Description:  Shawnee School's has implement an age appropriate curriculum on Cyber Bullying, Social Networking, and Internet Safety.

Needs Assessment:  Youth embrace new technologies such as text messaging and social networking. Digital Citizenship Training is a priority. Without proper guidance, these types of communication technologies have been deemed to be dangerous to a child’s physical and psychological well-being.

Goal 4:  Technology Acquisition and Standards

Goal Description:  Evaluate, maintain and upgrade the district’s end user devices.

Needs Assessment:  Decreasing technology budgets along with emerging digital devices have forced schools to evaluate the need to maintain or upgrade end user devices. Transitioning from server based storage to the "Cloud" must also be evaluated to determine the needs to expand additional equipment.
