Free Math Tutoring will be available every Monday and Wednesday starting September 16, 2019. Tutoring sessions will be held in Mr. Favro's room (B-28) after school until 3:30PM. Rides must arrive promptly. These sessions will provide the opportunity to complete homework with a teacher nearby as well as ask a Math teacher any questions he/she might have. Students can attend whenever they are able; there is no official sign-up for attending.
Be sure you have a Progressbook account set up! This is an excellent way to keep up with your student's grades and assignments. If you need help setting up an account, please contact your student's counselor.
Shawnee Middle School 7th and 8th grade students participated in our second annual STEM Day on February 21, 2019 . Professionals from Lima Memorial Health System, Ohio Northern University, Mercy Health- St. Rita's, and within the community volunteered their time to discuss their respective careers with students and complete related hands-on activities. Students attended two sessions each during their Math and Science periods. Session topics included: Microbiology, Anatomy, Industrial Engineering, Nursing, Physical Therapy, Forensic Biology, and Laboratory Medical Sciences. Thank you to all of the professionals who made this day possible for our students!
It's never too early to start thinking about career options. Middle school is a great time to learn more about different careers and ask questions. All students will create a "backpack" through the Ohio Means Jobs website at some point this school year. Students can use this website to determine their strengths and interests through a career interest inventory as well as explore the necessary education, job duties, salary information, and much more about various careers.
